A Crewe pub which was bulldozed in the 80s opened for business again at the weekend – with a celebration spread across five town pubs.Ye Olde Chetwode Arms stood opposite St Paul’s Church on the High Town crossroads but was controversially bulldozed in May 1980 to make way for the West Street extension.
Thirty years on, former regular Steve Willett organised a reunion for customers, staff and their friends and family.Steve said: “It was such a popular pub that people continued talking about it 30 years later and I wanted the younger generation to know what the fuss was all about. I thought the best way forward was to recreate the atmosphere, with music and traditional pub games.”
