Plans to demolish a closed down pub to make way for affordable homes have been submitted to Tendring Council.
Developer Gipping Construction is seeking to build 12 houses and two flats on the Main Road site in Dovercourt. The plans, submitted earlier this month, will mean knocking down The White Horse, which closed down last year.
Under the proposed plans, parking spaces would also be created for 28 cars and 22 bicycles at the site.Seven of the houses would have three bedrooms, three would have four bedrooms or more and the remaining would be two-bedroom homes.
Dave Rutson, ward councillor for Harwich West Central, welcomed the latest development. He said: “There’s a desperate need for housing in the area.“We know the days of pubs are diminishing. There are fewer and fewer because they can’t survive.
“It’s far better to have something there that’s needed.
